Manchester based Aspire Recruitment, part of the not-for-profit Manchester Economic Solutions, has won another top award at the flagship Recruiter’s Investing in Talent Awards event, held at the Brewery in London. The national awards aim to seek out and reward the top talent and initiatives in the recruitment industry across the UK.
The award was in the ‘Best Employability/Recruitment Initiative for the Unemployed' category, and featured The Works, an innovative partnership between Aspire and the University of Manchester, which aims to train and support local people into employment at the University and other large employers. Aspire has already placed over 1,400 candidates into temporary and permanent vacancies with the University and other local employers, with nearly 90% coming from the areas immediately around the University, which are among Manchester’s most deprived wards.
Aspire was established in 2003 as a social and ethical recruitment agency, with a mission to work in partnership with local stakeholders to improve the employment prospects and quality of life of local residents. The jobs involved cover a wide range of occupations including administration, catering, construction, IT and building attendants. In recent years, Aspire has also won in the Best Candidate Experience category in the Recruitment Business Awards, and earlier this year, The Works won the Social Impact award in the Guardian’s Sustainable Business awards.
Jerry Stokes, Managing Director of Employment at Economic Solutions said: “It’s testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff that we’ve won yet another prestigious national award. The judges said that our award entry was exemplary, and no other submission came close. This initiative has the double benefit that it not only helps some of the largest employers in the area to recruit well trained and prepared staff, but it also promotes the social inclusion agenda by supporting people from some of our most deprived neighbourhoods to gain sustainable employment.”
